So you’re nervous to take the lead. You’ve always been perfectly fine “singing in the background!”
I have a question for you. Do you believe what the word of God says about you?
The Lord directed me to Hebrews 10:35 yesterday:
“So don’t throw away your confidence it will be richly rewarded.”
Essentially-You cannot be afraid to lead!
Well, here goes something…
I remember attending a conference where a ministry leader and friend callously mentioned in his opening, “I don’t know why they have me teaching this, but here goes something.”
WHAT?????
…Way to start a presentation…IKR (I couldn’t resist)
Anyway…the comment really struck me because he urged to me and some others to attend the session!
—Note the irony here… I thought he should at least be a bit more enthused about the assignment. Of course, after he said this, my mind began to meander (as it so frequently does) and I felt the need to ask him, though I didn’t, “did you offer to teach or were you drafted?”
I guess I really can’t blame him for being so brutally honest because he’s always been sort of shy, but when he got started, he was completely at home in the spotlight! I could say that it is just nerves, but ultimately, he lacked confidence in his own God-given ability.
Some might think that a good thing…I mean, mastering humility and all, but what God showed me in this verse was that we can’t afford to throw away our confidence no matter how we received the assignment. Rather, it’s our job to do what we can and allow God to do the rest. Considering my friend received a standing ovation, there really had been very little reason for his insecurity.
I too have been there countless times, but it’s refreshing to know that even when I feel like I may not have what it takes, God reminds me that if I press on, I too will be richly rewarded.
